Planter Care Sheet
Each pot comes with a Neodymium Magnet or “Rare Earth Magnet” in order to keep it from falling off of the stem. These magnets are extremely strong! Do not put them together if you have multiple in your kit, or you will have trouble getting them apart, and they can give a nasty blister if you get skin caught between them. They are also very brittle, and can crack if you let them smack together. Keep away from small children.
Pots are equipped with holes for water drainage. When potting your plant, place your magnet in first, making sure it is facing the correct way to ensure it magnetizes to the stem, and try not to block all the holes at the bottom so there is proper drainage. Then put your soil and plant in the pot. To water your plant, simply pull the pot from the stem, water, and let drain. Make sure that the bottom of the pot is completely dry before placing back on the stem, otherwise the steel will rust. Do not water your plants while the pots are magnetized to the stem.
Patinas are a natural oxidation process that changes the color of metals. Different colors are achieved by using different chemicals and/or heat to control and speed up the process of that change. No patina is ever going to look exactly the same- the beauty lies in the organic variation of the colors.
Protection of the coloration of metal is achieved by treating it with a lacquer sealant and then a wax in order to keep the colors from changing and the steel from rusting. Still, UV light, moisture and other elements in the air likely will, over time, cause the colors to change. This is natural and mostly unavoidable over many years. Waxing or applying a clear sealant every 1-2 years can help prevent this from happening. ArmorAll spray wax is an easy-to-find product that can be used for this purpose. Follow the instructions on the product for best results If rusting occurs on the steel stem, use a very fine (00-000) steel wool to remove the surface rust, wipe clean with a dry cloth, and treat the affected part with clear spray lacquer sealer. This can be bought at most any hardware store.
